Quality camping in New York?

A bunch of my college buddies and I are planning a camping trip for this upcoming summer. Since none of us have ever gone camping before we could really use some advice. Most importantly, where is the best place to go? I have owned an 8 man raft for about 8 years now and would like to finally get some use out of it. So a place where we can do some great fishing and rafting is a must. Also we plan on drinking and I heard that drinking is prohibited on state parks. Could some one please verify those rules and restrictions for me. And thats pretty much it. Any information on where to stay or camping tips woud be great appreciated. Thanks for your help!!!

Could someone please tell me the best place to go camping where a bunch of college students would have a great time. We have a raft and we would like to take it on a river. Also we are looking for nice hiking trails, fishing,. and a place where we could build a nice fire and drink some beers. Please help us out. We have no idea what we’re doing!

Question by dale h: Why are boat prices in places like Florida and California so much less than in Kansas / Oklahoma area?
I have looked at a lot of fish/ski boats to buy and there is a huge difference in price for similar units. Example: I found a 2004 Triton Bass boat for $ 2000 in Miami, FL and a similar boat in Oklahoma City costs $ 14,000! That’s a huge difference!
I’m guessing it has something to do with being around saltwater?

Most Bass boats in Florida are fishing freshwater rivers and lakes. Even boats stored near salt water, like Tampa Bay, wouldn’t make that big a difference. There is another answer from personal experience. A lot of people retire to Florida, but age creeps up on you and you can’t do what you did a few years ago. You don’t need the money so you sell cheap. Oki-es, love their bass boats second only to their wives, so you got to pry their boats from their hands with money! Classic supply and demand.

I’m buying a gift certificate for my brother who lives in Texas and loves fresh fish. I live in Seattle, and I know Pike Place Fish is great, but their prices seem high. Which market has the best fish and best prices?

First Time Camping Experience in NEW YORK!!!?

Okeydokey, I need some New York campers (that sounded lame) to help me pick out a sweet camping site. So me and a few friends want to go camping to celebrate our first year of college completed and I’m in charge of arranging everything. Personally, I’ve never been camping but wanted to since I was a kid. Ideally, I’d like to find a nice camping area in New York that isn’t “family-oriented,” in other words, secluded but environmentally beautiful. Somewhere where we can build a small camp fire for barbecuing, preferably near a lake where we can swim and/or fish. Are there any sites like this in New York? (Out of state sites are fine too; We’re willing to make the trip) Where and what do I have to do to arrange this? Do I have to call and reserve a spot? Also, how much money do we need in order to make this trip as comfortable as possible? (We have 4 people going, including myself). If we go, it’ll probably be for a weekend or so (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday).

If you lack experience pick a place that has at least some creature comforts like pit toilets at the minimum. Go cheap on expenses and lose quality to the trip specially food/drink wise bring foods you like at home that way you will eat it, Don’t even think of bringing MRE’s. Per person food expense for a great 3 day weekend? about $ 50 each will cover the food goods well. Campsite costs vary any where from free to $ 50 a night depending on how much creature comfort your willing to by. Some campsites have running water and electricity for example. Getting reservations assures you have a campsite when you get there

A group of my friends and I want to take a trip. We were thinking maybe New York or around the area. Any suggestions of where exactly to go or what to do? We were planning on going along the lines of camping…maybe water rafting, boating or fishing or something.
