Is a Water Heater Necessary for a Betta Fish?

Question by Eva: Is a Water Heater Necessary for a Betta Fish?
I have had a Betta Fish for a little under a month, and he’s living in a 1 gallon tank (please don’t tell me I need a bigger tank, he has a good life in there already with some plants, gravel and castle and it all gets washed out weekly) I live in New York and right now obviously it’s summer, so I’m not worrying about my little Betta, but at night we do put on the A/C and he’s doing fine, but it can get a little cold in the living room (where he is currently living) also Winter is gonna come around soon, and the Winters here are very cold, but we do put on the heater(for the house), but should I really get a heater for my Betta? If so, is it cheap? The tank is only a 1 gallon. Do I get a 7.5 watt? Please help!
